Chicago Kollaboration is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
Why Chicago Kollaboration?
Asian Americans in society are often marginalized as nerds, kung-fu artists, laundromat proprietors, etc. Not that there is anything wrong with being any of these. However, many other Americans assume that "all Asians are good at math" or "all Asians are good at martial arts." Although there may be a ring of truth to these stereotypes, the portrayal of Asian Americans in the mainstream media on the whole has been unrealistic, if not mistaken.
Consequently, Asian Americans find it far more difficult to pursue careers outside the "model minority" or immigrant niches. On the silver screen and television, they are often limited to demeaning roles that perpetuate negative stereotypes. Because of these barriers, they find it impossible to tap into the mainstream entertainment industry.
The media is a powerful influence. Chicago Kollaboration uses pop culture and the contemporary performing arts to generate a positive image of Asian Americans for the rest of the world to see. Chicago Kollaboration, in unison with Kollaboration LA, NY Kollaboration, and Toronto Kollaboration, aims to elevate the level of creativity in the community so that Asian Americans will be known for being more than just market owners, drycleaner operators, bad drivers, and so on.
Our Mission
Chicago Kollaboration aims to bring together talented young Asian Americans and elevate them to the level of their mainstream counterparts. Ultimately, Chicago Kollaboration seeks to eliminate biases and stereotypes that pose as obstacles to aspiring Asian Americans seeking their dreams of acting, singing, etc.
Our main goals are to:- To establish an avenue for young Asian Americans to showcase their talents.
- To increase minority visibility in mainstream media and to promote greater diversity in the urban arts and entertainment industry by normalizing ethnic appearances.
- To enrich our communities by promoting racial harmony throughout America.
